If you're into a snobby ladies overpriced north shore luncheon place with an abrasive rude hostess/waitress, this will be your cup of tea. Or rather, your apple for the day. Went there this morning with my husband. We hadn't been there in several years, and most likely will not being going back any time soon, if ever. Boy has it changed. 2 orders of scrambled eggs, and one mimosa.
The bill was $43.00 before tip. Unbelievable. And the waitress/hostess is awful. Food is good enough though, but so what. Lot's of places have good food, and we just got eggs.nothing complicated or requires much culinary skill to prepare.

Without a doubt, some of the most delicious food and desserts we've ever eaten anywhere! Friendly atmosphere, fantastic owner, great menu, attentive staff. and the most delicious pies. We had to tone down our ooo-ing and ahh-ing and Oh my god-ing while eating our slices of raspberry pie, lest people would hear us and think we were weirdos. No matter where you live in the greater Chicagoland area, it's worth the drive to this charming little haven along the North Shore.

Great food! Butternut Squash soup and Salmon entree were delicious although I would have liked more mushrooms in my dish. The raspberry pie may have come from Jewel's bakery, not up to par, mediocre. No ice cream or whipped cream on top was offered as server Krisztina G. couldn't be bothered. She was so cold and never engaged, a real turn off. Alberto, our busboy was more attentive, he was polite, courteous and friendly. Wine list was good and the Cabernet was very good

The servers at Meg's cafe are amazing, but the manager and owner are rude and could care less if they have customers or not. The menu is a bit monotonous but the food quality is consistently good. Tonight, I was thrown out of the restaurant because I could not produce my vaccine pass which I left in the car accidentally. They would not believe me that I am fully vaccinated even though I had my hospital scrubs on and I am a first responder. I will never return to Meg's Cafe again and I told them so.

Love the ambiance - cute little cafe with made-from-scratch food - lots of variety in type of food, from blackened fish tacos to steak sandwiches to sliders and pasta.and apple pie and caramel bread pudding for dessert! They have some cocktails and wines and beers as well - I had Pink Sands cocktail that was expertly mixed- I seriously can't find a weak point here!

Wonderful family meals that rotate daily. We've had the salmon and it may come with mashed potatoes or pasta, salad bread rolls and wonderful cookies. Easy to order online or via phone and make sure you enter your preferred time for pickup in the comment field if ordering online. Their food has always been fresh and their curbside pickup is efficient and safe.

I celebrated my graduation today in this delicious restaurant. happy to tell that we passed a magnificent evening and the venue was clearly the reason for this strong gathering. The team collaborated in a gorgeous way, the meals were yummy and my buddies were so thrilled. We shall definitely come back again for more celebrations. Thank you very much.

During this Covid - 19 pandemic, my family and I have ordered a dinner for four from Meg's Cafe, once a week. I cannot say enough about the curb-side pick up, reasonable prices and delicious food! For $40.00, we get enough food for dinner and lunch for the next day! Meg's lemon chicken piccata is beyond delicious (Monday night's special).
The angel hair pasta that comes along is light and flavorful. The home made rolls and enormous Caesar salad are just wonderful. The home made dressing (on the side) is awesome. The best part are the home made cookies! They are big, buttery and amazing! I cannot say enough! My husband loves the Tuesday night special, chicken parmesan! It is light and not too saucy! Just right! Maggie and Andrew McElvain, Northbrook, IL

This review is for the food only, as we ordered delivery. The ordering was easy, the delivery was prompt and curteous, so really my only gripe is with the food. I am leaving three stars rather than what I really think because granted, I haven't tried every dish in the restaurant, and perhaps I will change my mind and order something else in the future, at which point I will amend my review.
I ordered the carne asada taco dinner, and perhaps this was the mistake, looking through the menu again, maybe this is more of a feel good, decadent and rich flavor type of restaurant. The tacos though, it was just so lackluster that maybe they should just take it off the menu so people aren't led astray from the restaurants strengths. To start, the meat was ok, but a but dry and overcooked, however its delivery so maybe just a fluke.
The rest of the stuff within the taco, however, just never left a good impression. When ordering a 16 dollar taco dinner from a restaurant, I think we can all agree there's some expectation of fresh made and gourmet. The salsa paired with the taco tastes like your generic wholesale salsa we bought for tortilla chips in high school, but its not something I would have expected from a restaurant.
The guacamole, once again, is wholesale, and its a shame because I feel that just fresh guacamole could likely hold up a dish on its own. I had to write a review because for price and expectations of quality, this was on par with taco bell, just more expensive. I was expecting something of fresh prepared quality for the price, but frankly, for the price of under 10 dollars, you can receive three tacos at Chipotle with freshly prepared ingredients, and the quality is night and day difference.
I would love to continue to support local business, but have to urge the kitchen to start preparing some of this fresh and be competitive in their pricing if they continue to offer this type of a dish. Perhaps some of their more decadent offerings show a bit more evidence that the quality is deserving of the price, the taco's however are on my do not order again list.

This is a cute spot and very cozy and welcoming. The food was good, especially the tacos which were expensive for tacos but superbly fresh and high quality. The service was meh. Our waitress seemed like she resented being there as did most of the staff apart from the kitchen servers and chef (who I thought came out to serve a dish to another customer). Might have been one of those days. I'd try it again when I am back in Glencoe, which is rare.

A family friend ordered us dinner from here shortly after my grandmother's passing and we were pleasantly surprised, having previously (many years ago) had a very "meh" experience. This time, we had chicken piccata and it was surprisingly good. The noodles were also good. The broccoli was OK - not too overdone, but really big pieces (too much stalk). Minus a star for the salad - it was basically a large tray of lettuce. Which, if my mom recalls correctly, was also her complaint previously.
But now we know better. I've eaten at the cafe in the past and have always been pleased by my food. The atmosphere seems a bit odd (almost too formal for the vibe of the food), but that's not un-ordinary on the North Shore. I would definitely consider them for catering needs in the future.

Um I don't know what to say. I felt I was transported to my future when I walked in it's as if I want to some Assisted Living Dining Area and I was visiting my grandmother. The place is clean, overly lit and staff were nice enough. I've heard good things about the food but I definitely was not impressed. I can only describe it as mediocre wedding food or perhaps nursing home cuisine except they serve wine. One stand out here is the bread basket. Would I go back? Sure, when I turn 80. But remind someone to bring my walker!

Came here for dinner with friends the other day. We all enjoyed a cozy dinner here. I think that we all started with a soup. They offered three different varieties that night. I had the butternut squash and I loved it. It was nice and hot on a cold evening with flurries. For my main I had the lemon chicken piccata. It is served over angel hair pasta.
It was delicious but I could have done with more sauce. Don't know maybe if I had asked for some more I would have gotten it. For dessert I shared a brownie a la mode with a friend. It was only okay. Not my favorite brownie. We were a party of six so we wouldn't fit but if you are four or less, ask for a table next to the fire!

Our organization recently had Apple A Day cater our holiday party, and everything was absolutely delicious. We had a kale salad that was unbelievably good, ham on the bone, turkey, coconut shrimp, chicken skewers, chicken quesadillas, miniature beef wellington, a cheese tray, crudites tray, and probably a few other things that I can't recall right now. It was all excellent, as were the servers. We will definitely use them again.

Meg's Cafe? An Apple a Day? I've been confused by what their official name is ever since moving to Glencoe, but they can call themselves whatever they want as long as they continue making delicious tomato soup and tuna salad. I haven't branched out from that combo in the half a dozen times I've been to Meg's Cafe/An Apple a Day because it's that good.
This is a great spot for lunch (closed Sundays) when you're looking for something a bit fancier than the other "order from the counter" spots in town. I recently took my kids for the first time on a Saturday. We not only scored a table for 7 people right away (whoo hoo), but the service was relatively fast and their kids meals were way better than what my kids normally eat.
They went to town on their order of spaghetti and I couldn't help, but steal some of their grilled cheese to go along with my favorite tomato soup. I also recently learned that they are open for dinner. While it doesn't look like my soup/salad combo is on the dinner menu, it looks worth checking out.

On the way into the garden with the family, we decided to grab lunch somewhere near Glencoe. Our first option ended up being closed permanently, so we opted for Meg's Cafe. We walked in, and I thought. ooh. How very clean. It's located in a wonderful walkable part of (what I think is) the Glencoe town center. Everything is trimmed nice, the inside is very white, it's just nice and clean.
So what did I get? The fish tacos, of course. The risk paid off, and overturned my overall philosophy regarding fish tacos (before this, I thought they were an abomination before the Lord). With the right fish, blackened, good salsa and fresh vegetables, it turns out that fish tacos can taste good. And these tasted great. My wife had a tomato bisque that was excellent. Smooth, bright and with just the right balance of tomato versus oil / broth.
We finished things off with a couple of cookies from the bakery. It's been 4 months so I don't remember the exact flavors; I just remember they were as fantastic as the rest of the meal. The best part about our lunch was that even though the cafe is surrounded by million-dollar houses, lunch didn't set us back an arm and a leg. Sounds good to me! If you're in the northern suburbs and looking for a great place to catch lunch, Meg's Cafe is highly recommended.
