Kaosamai has been a Fremont staple since 2001. We opened with a small family-based staff and a lot of ambition. In 2004, we opened our first mobile catering truck, that was very much built by hand. We are proud to say we pioneered the food truck industry in Seattle. Our signature orange restaurant and trucks have made us a familiar face around town.

We came here last Friday around 5:30 PM with a party of 7. It was not busy and we were seated right away. Parking: they have a private lot around back of the restaurant We ordered: - crab rangoons - tofu fresh rolls - khao soi - pumpkin curry - panan curry - pad thai - alcoholic beverages We shared the crab rangoons and fresh rolls, and both were good.
I ordered the khao soi as my entree, it was on their specials board. Presentation was 5/5, taste wise, I thought it could have been a little more flavorful. It wasn't the best khao soi I have ever had, but it was still good. If I were to come back I'd probably try the other dishes. At the end of our meal, they said they could only accept 3 cards. So we opted to put it on one card and we all Venmo'd our friend.

We came here for a quick bite and only ordered appetizers. We had the prawn spring rolls, crab rangoons, and the garlic chicken wings! I was really excited for this meal as I love Thai food but overall we felt as if the food was either too sweet or salty. The spring rolls were great but the peanut sauce was too sweet for our liking. The chicken wings were way too salty and unenjoyable.
And finally the crab rangoons weren't the best either - also pretty salty and underwhelming. And I really love crab rangoons in general so I was pretty disappointed. Giving this place 3 stars because we do want to come back and try the entrees too. We also loved the outdoor seating and the staff were super friendly, but the food did not live up to our expectation for Thai!

My favorite Thai restaurant in all of seattle. I have been coming here for over a decade. Love all the classics staples never fail - basil fried rice, curry, phad Thai. But the newer menu & specials are such a treat and always delicious. Service is always excellent, patient & helpful with my allergies. There are so many gluten free options - I wish ALL restaurants in Seattle do what Kaosamai does- USE TAMARI INSTEAD OF SOY SAUCE - so simple and opens up your restaurant to a wider population. So appreciated. For some of the recent reviews - we understand if you guys are busy, I for one am happy to see my favorite restaurant to receive so much business's

Friendly wait staff and DELICIOUS food! Portions are large too Highly recommend the duck noodle soup, it's so flavorful and just the right blend of spices and tang. Prices are good though there's an automatic 20% service fee from each diner to maintain providing competitive staff wages, which I hugely respect!

I've been ordering take out from here for years. It's near my home and the food is reasonably good (although you have to remind them to go light on fish sauce or leave it off - it can be way too strong). Today I called to place an order. The total was $55 but then they threw on a new "service fee" of $12.13. She said it is so I don't have to tip.
This is a 22 percent surcharge on a take out order! I might tip that much for table service, but that's ridiculous for take out. Bye Kaosamai. You're taking advantage of people who were very generous during the last two years. Now you're just getting cocky.

I would say everything here is extra extra flavorful which also means way too salty but the flavor was on point if you know what I mean. You might want to order a bowl of rice--- I really love Nam khao tod, the dish was seasoned really well but it had no cured pork meat. That was very disappointing because the flavors were there, I felt like we just paid for rice that was fried crispy and seasoning.
If I was coming back to nectar lounge next door-- yes I would come back to eat again-- but def would order something different and the same old classic phad see ew or phad kee mao. The phad Thai was ok. Definitely on the tangy side.

Look for this Thai tea-like orange color house. Better than other Thai places in the area. Dishes aren't too saucy here. Service is marginal here. Parking lot in the back. Can see their food truck in the parking lot. Catering available. Ordered Fresh Rolls with Prawns $9.95 Eggplant Special (stirfry with some sauce) $13.95 Pham Bai Kaprao Kai Dow stirfry ground chicken, green bean, pepper, chili, basil. Served over rice & topped with fried egg $15.95 Jasmine Rice $2 Located -on NE corner of Phinney Ave N & N 36th Ave (4 blocks west of Fremont Ave N)

The food was AMAZING! Every bite was bursting with flavor and freshness. I 1000% recommend the Ba Me Hang, and my friend loved the Crab Fried Rice. The portions were very generous, and everything tasted great even when we reheated it the next day. The staff members have welcoming personalities, and were very attentive and cheerful. It's 40 minutes away from home, but absolutely worth the drive, and we will definitely be back for more.

FLY IN WATER IS NOT BLACK RICE! This is the worst place in Seattle. Food was just basic and service was the worst on earth. Don't go there unless you want to be yelled at! Based on the previous reviews on yelp, this cranky gal just likes to yell at her customers. There was a black fly in water and when we let the girl (restaurant owner probably) know, first thing she said was "I don't know how to speak to that" and then took the glass away and never came back.
We wanted to let the other service to know about it(after payment), the owner came right away and said it was not a fly but a black rice. And yelled us to never came back again. She has been cranky all nigh(or a week given previous week from 6 days ago also mentioned her yelling issue) apparently : ). I don't even wanna mention about how slow the food was and incorrect order. Worst place in Seattle. Don't go unless you want bugs in food : ) and people yelling at your face

I only gave it one star because I had to in order to post the review. We were so excited to try this restaurant. We ordered a curry dish and asked if we could have it with out the bell peppers and we chose brown rice. The order came with bell peppers and white rice, before we realized it was incorrect the waiter was gone, we couldnt track him down to tell him it was incorrect, so we ate it. Luckily one of us wasnt allergic to the peppers.
When the waiter finally came to our table he didnt offer to get us the correct dish he only said he could take 10% off. We werent happy about that so he went in the back and told someone. This gal came out storming, super shitty attitude, my date said the least they could do was bring out another drink each. When it was time to pay I didnt tip because they didnt even apologize for the wrong order.
As we were walking down the street, the same gal came running down the street toward us yelling to "never come back again!" Not like we would but wow! I never write bad reviews, but this was just way out of line!

This is my favorite Thai restaurant that I've been to! My husband and I have been going here for years, and have tried so many of their dishes- our favorites remain: Pad Thai (best I've ever had), Tom Yum soup, fresh rolls, pork/sticky rice, and their curries. Their beer, wine and cocktails are so fun and fresh, as is their Thai tea. Just an amazing, lovely, friendly place :)

Delicious Thai food. Ordered a Tamarind Pad Thai with Fresh Spring Rolls and all the ingredients seemed fresh. Decent selection of alcoholic beverages. Has both indoor as well as outdoor seating options with flame heaters on the patio. The service can be improved though. The servers need to be a bit more hospitable. Was accidentally served chicken Pad Thai when I had ordered the Tofu one. They rectified their mistake once notified and brought the original dish ordered.

I ate here of the first time and had a lunch special that included Pad Thai, Red Chicken Curry, three mini Spring Rolls, and rice. It was a generous amount of food that tasted great. The curry was pleasantly spicy with lots of coconut milk in it and the spring rolls were just out of the wok and were piping hot Their drink menu is very short, so I decided to try something new and had the Thai Iced Coffee which was awesomely good.
I now have a new favorite drink. The staff was efficient and friendly. The only thing that left me scratching my head was that they provide a fork, spoon, and Korean style metal chopsticks. The Thai don't use chopsticks; a spoon and fork is what is authentic. My guess is that they don't want to bother explaining this fact to their customers.

Fast service, nice outdoor patio to accommodate our sweet but sassy dog, delicious food. Yes! Their menu has some not-often-seen items on it. My noodle dish was one of them: Ba Me Hang. Heard of it? I hadn't, but man, it was delicious. The sauce tasted very fresh and crisp and, as others here have noted, not greasy, which is typical of Thai noodle dishes.
My hard-to-please husband was very happy with his Phad Kee Mow, as well. I'm glad we've found a go-to restaurant here in Seattle because everyone needs at least one of those :-

Friends were visiting from out of state and craving Thai. We ran down to Kaosamai and arrived at 8:30 on a Friday night. We already felt a bit bad showing up within an hour to close. But they were still seating, and invited us to find a table. The patio was busy. Believe there were four other tables, including one that was an 8-top and a couple other 4-tops.
Most tables looked like had not yet ordered either. Kitchen and FOH worked their butts off. Took till after closing to get our meals, but made sense with how many tables they had. Food was delicious and each had good blending of acid, sweet and spice. Generous portions too. I ordered the Pad Thai chicken with tamarind, 1 star spice. Friends ordered several other entres and an appetizer ranging from 1-5 star spice. Leftovers were still great the next day as well.

Top tier restaurant. Delicious food. Quick service. It is one of the best Thai restaurants I've found in the Seattle area. We (a group of 4) tried several dishes and all of them were delicious. The fried spring rolls were tasty and not too oily. Mango Sticky Rice for the dessert was amazing. There's plenty of outdoor seating available, and it's pretty nice. Should be easy to find street parking in the adjoining 1-2 blocks.

I love this place! Every time I am in the Seattle area I come here if I'm in the mood for Thai food! I eat Thai food religiously so I feel like I've built a good taste bud for what's good, and what's not. Plus I am Asian myself growing up on Cambodian/Thai foods. This place is absolutely DELICIOUS! My only complaint is that the curry dish portion is kind of small, and it does not come with rice which is kind of odd. You'd have to order the rice separately.
Usually all the other Thai restaurants I go to, their curry dishes comes with rice. Besides that. I love everything here, the Pad Thai, Pad Se Ew are great choices! My favorite is the Pumpkin Curry! Yummm!

Really great and authentic Thai food! The authenticity of this restraunts food is is immediately noticeable compared to so many other Thai restaurants in the Seattle area. Nicest staff as well. Part of the patio was pretty toasty due to being plexiglass on the sides, probably from the colder months, but suspect they will rearrange soon. Highly recommend the Phad Bai Kaprao Kai Dow.

Absolutely amazing Thai restaurant in the Fremont district of Seattle. Great service, friendly and fast. The restaurant is spacious, clean and very well decorated. The food.unbelievable. So far I've had the pad thai, the pumpkin curry and a few appetizers. Everything was exceptional and incredibly fresh. As I type this I'm trying to talk myself out of visiting again tomorrow. It's that good! This is a must visit.

We ordered takeout due to COVID 19. The person running the counter was very pleasant to talk to. We got 2 orders of pad see iew and a pad kee mao. The flavor of thai basil came through really nicely in the pad kee mao. The meat was maybe a hair on the drier side, but it was not tough and the dish was not too oily which in my opinion is better anyways. Overall, would return.

Kaosamai is truly a hidden gem! Such great prices for the quality and quantity of food that you get :) Plus the servers are really nice and careful with COVID precautions. I ordered 3 entrees for two people expecting there to not be enough food if I only ordered 2. Boy was I wrong because we had enough leftovers for 2 days! I got the Pad Thai, Pineapple fried rice, and Volcano Chicken.
The Volcano Chicken came with a sweet and spicy sauce that was amazing and paired well with every entree! Although I love love love Thai food, many restaurants make their food too oily.well, not Kaosamai! I was pleasantly surprised with how flavorful each entree was without all the oil that plagues Thai food from other restaurants. I'm not sure what their dine-in options are, but I've only ever ordered take-out.
However the servers have always been helpful and patient with me, even over the phone (which is always appreciated, I've had some bad phone experiences let me tell you!). Definitely check out Kaosamai if you're in the area and looking for some great Thai food.

Kaosamai really is my favorite Thai restaurant around. They consistently get it right like few others do. Their ingredients are fresh and high quality, the serving sizes are substantial, the flavors are well built, and the spice level is on point (I get a 3 and it's hot, but not murderous). I work nearby and this is one of my most frequented lunch spots - it's one of Fremont's best, hands down.
My go-tos are the Phad See Iew, Phad Thai, Phad Kee Mow, and the prawn fresh rolls.but everything here has been great. Panang curry, cashew chicken, and pineapple fried rice are my other barometers of Thai food, and they nail it with all of them. So glad I have such excellent Thai food available so close!

I had to update my previous review, because my husband and I had lunch here and it was really delicious. We ordered entrees that we don't normally order at Thai restaurants and we were pleasantly surprised. I had a noodle soup with braised duck (I don't remember the name of it) and it was super flavorful and delicious! The broth was really rich and the duck was so tender.
My hubby had the moo yang with sticky rice and wow that was so delicious as well. The pork was tender and flavorful. I highly recommend ordering those two dishes! Service was excellent as well. We came with some friends and they had to split us up into two tables, which wasn't an issue. And they have outdoor seating!

Best Thai food in Fremont. Everything is so fresh and tasty! The staff is always so friendly and accommodating. Never waited long for the food even when it was busy but cooking it fresh isn't done in a snap either so people complaining about long wait times may not understand that. Fresh rolls and spring rolls are great starters and I love that they always have a few specials to choose from as well!

Fresh, bright, delicious. Beautiful place with beautiful people. My first time to this restaurant and it did not disappoint. My server-Poppy was very friendly, welcoming, kind, and helpful. I ordered the Kaosamai Curry Seafood and it was delicious. It would've been nice if rice came with this dish for the price. But they do give generous portions of the Prawns, Scallops, and Muscles.
I ordered spice level 4, but it was more like a 2, but still very delicious. The restaurant is so clean and bright. Love all the windows and trees outside. The large patio is amazing-great for warm, sunny days. Clean restrooms. Street parking.

Kaosamai is back! The food: We ordered the Fresh Rolls with Prawns, Mango Salad, Mama Noodles, Phad Prik Khning Prawns, Kaosamai Curry Seafood, Swimming Rama with chicken, and Moo Yang. Everything was a hit! Some items might be a little too salty for some people -- but that's the way I like it. The space: Big outdoor patio, free parking lot, and lots of smaller tables inside. Random: Everyone (including the staff) will agree that the bathroom walls are kind of weird. (The previous people gave the walls this weird 3D texture. you'll get it as soon as you see it.) The people: SUPER FRIENDLY staff who love and recognize their regulars.
This is a small, foodcart-turned-restaurant, family-run business so be a little patient and understanding as they work things out. Note: Many of the older reviews are from before the restaurant closed due to the unfortunate passing of the owner, Doug. Since then, they have reopened and are still figuring things out. I encourage you to give them another try.
