Girard Gourmet

I was passing through La Jolla recently and had to stop at Girard. I used to summer in town with my grandparents, and this place brough back a lot of great memories from childhood. I hadn't been in years, and was not disappointed. Iced cookies remain as memorable and delicious as I remembered. Had to bring a box back to LA for the family.

How can a sandwich be this crazy delicious? I stopped by today and picked up the turkey & avocado sandwich. The service here is not fast food, I'm not saying they're slow, they are just bombarded with a lot of clients and they still take the time to provide quality food and customer service. There's something so nostalgic about coming here.

I remember coming here as a child and always liking the food. However now that I'm an adult I am in love with the food. I purchased a sandwich togo and I wanted to take a picture of it but already almost devoured the whole thing lol so a pic will have to be taken next time. Honestly I don't understand though cuz it's just a sandwich but it is such a good sandwich.

I mean it's so delicious I had to stop in the middle of eating and write a review it's that good. Big shout out to Girard Gourmet. There's a reason this restaurant's been around for many many years! Great job!

Great taste. Busy place. Apple pie was excellent, almond croissant just perfect - not too sweet, not greasy like many places, cookies above expectations. coffee for the price of the place could be better, but we were there for cookies, so it was great. the staff is so warm and professional and with the love for cooking and customers.

Stopped in for a snack. The place was adorable and so much variety. Seemed like a family run place or at least they treated each other that way. The line was cramped and very long due to the design of the store but somehow they manage to keep the line moving really well weaving in and out of each other finding ways to help customers, organized chaos so to speak.

I got a apple streusel and it was amazing. my daughter got a cranberry muffin and her and I both tried it and it didn't have much flavor but the texture and moisture were good. I would go back but maybe not the cranberry muffin. Sorry Girard

Every time I come here I have the most amazing experience. All of the employees are so nice and generous. The food is always delicious and tasty. 11/10 recommend!

Great customer service and great food! We had questions regarding what muffins flavors were there and what was in the quiches. The worker explained the options nicely and thoroughly. The customer service was amazing! We ordered an orange muffin, cowboy quiche, and a cup of coffee. We sat outside and the food tasted so good. The orange muffin was flavorful and moist. The cowboy quiche was warm, filling, and filled with lots of goodies.

BEST AUTHENTIC ITALIAN 10/10 recommendation for a cheaper option for great commodity.

It closes at 6PM most days as a heads up, not 8PM as is listed on Google. I got one of the "hot specialty plates", but my food had to be reheated in the microwave and didn't taste good at all-certainly not worth the $13 it cost. I'm not sure how this place has 4.6 stars, but their breakfast and pastry options might be better than the evening lunch/dinner menu. I did give two stars because the staff was courteous and friendly, and offered us a free pastry since it was about closing time.

I came here and got a cookie. Little did I know they put three more cookies in my bag! I didn't find out till I got home. So kind of them and I was able to share with my friends. Will definitely come again. Great little place with kind people! Thanks so much! :D

My husband is saying this is the best sandwich he's ever had. First of all, it was HUGE. I had a couple bites and it was fresh. Just look at the pictures, they say it all. Adorable little hole in the wall spot that is perfect for lunch or just a sweet snack + coffee.

In some regards, Girard Gourmet may be considered a relic of lost age, but hopefully it will continue to survive and help revive more classical features of eateries. The shop is fairly small, with a long deli-style counter, but offers a surprising large variety of goods. There is some seating in the back, and a few seats outside. The lines during meal rush hours (e.g., lunch) are long; presumably, most of the people get their dishes to go, but if you like a dose of people watching with your chow, their outdoor tables, right on Girard, are great for that.

In the deli case are various house-made dishes - simple but well made. These include meat, fowl, and fish mains, pot pies, and various sides. Everything I recall trying here has been quite good. They make various deli sandwiches, which I haven't tried yet. There is also an extensive bakery section, with various pastries and, notably, a large selection of decorated cookies (which can be special ordered, too, at reasonably rates, if you need some for some occasion).

And they also have excellent freshly squeezed orange juice, along with various other beverages. Price-wise, Girard Gourmet is the best bang-for-the-buck in the village of La Jolla. Service is competent and generally friendly.

We were there earlier today. The gentleman behind the counter was so wonderful and amazing! He let my daughter and I try a pig cookie it was delicious. She bought strawberry rhubarb pie and I purchased corn beef and cabbage soup. I cannot wait to return and Customer Service was fabulous! Thank you - cannot wait to return!

On my trip to San Diego my friends and I were hungry and decided to stop by here. I ordered the turkey avocado sub (which I split with my friend ) but it was a great size and soooo delicious. I am so sad I don't live in San Diego lol but when I travel back this will be stop I will make. Also their cookies were delicious and the whole staff is so friendly and warm!

Loved my sandwich. Great place to stop after wandering the streets on La Jolla on the weekend. Be warned though, parking is limited especially between March and September.

Had coffee and a cookie at Girard Gourmet 2/6/22. Delicious sugar cookie with beautiful icing. Perfect ratio of icing to cookie.

While the store front and counter may not look extravagant. The food is amazing in taste and freshness. We found this gem on the way to another breakfast restaurant, and came back every morning to experience heavenly tastes.

This was recommended by our manicurest. GREAT RECOMMENDATION! We tried a little of a lot of things. Such an amazing place! You won't be disappointed.

Girard Cafe is what I look forward to every day for my lunch break. The staff are the most genuine people I've ever met. The lines can get pretty long but it's always worth the wait.

I have been going there since college. The roast chicken is amazing! So is the meatball mint soup. Everything is good. The owner is soooo sweet!

A recommendation by our nail technicians after a fun Sister Day! Sooooo glad we came! Too much delicious food! We ordered one of everything because it all looked amazing! Come eat here! It's bomb!

Perfect lunch. Had the best grilled turkey sandwich with pesto and Provolone cheese and my friend had the most amazing organic salad with grilled salmon. Get some pastries too!

The best egg and cheese on a roll I've had to date. Their quiches are pretty impressive too, I got the salmon egg and goat cheese quiche and it was *chefs kiss*. I am just so impressed. I am going to come back here and eat more. Highly recommend!

Ordered a cake for mom who is a chocolate lover. I was a little worried because I ordered over the phone from Atlanta before flying out to California. Picked up cake in LaJolla right near our hotel. Cake was ready on time and looked gorgeous. Presented it to mom who is picky about her chocolate. She raved about how good it tasted over and over. So glad I trusted Girard with her birthday cake! Would definitely come back again and strongly recommend!

A La Jolla staple. They offer a bit of everything from breakfast to lunch. Daily fresh baked bread used for their sandwiches. Great and creative sugar cookies. Recommend their lunch sandwiches, quiches, and cookies.

Every time we visit La Jolla, we stop here for cookies and other treats. The painted sugar cookies are works of art and even tastier than they look. Every single baked good I've ever had has been delicious. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Do call ahead because their actual hours don't match what's posted on their website or Google business listing.

Stopped by here as I was waiting on my massage nearby. I've always seen a line, so I was excited to try it out. talk about variety! This place has baked goods for everyone. I can't even begin to list all the good they have. Not to mention they have a full deli menu. I had idea they had salads, sandwiches, and deli sides. I defiantly want to come back for lunch. I got a butter croissant and a pecan cinnamon roll. Both were delicious. Next time I will have them warm my croissant as I ate it on my walk!

Looks amazing and see the pastries for the windows call my attention how yummy they can be but unfortunately the 2 I got was a little hard or looks like was not fresh maybe for a day before. I can sense the flavors and I am a 100% if it is fresh is very delicious. I just tried pastries but i saw they have yummy food and salads.

Usually amazing cookies! This time around my frog sugar cookie was meh and my boyfriend's chocolate chip cookie was pretty hard:/. But I still give it 4 stars because it is usually amazing and the service is always great. I love how beautiful their display of cookies are with everything from surfboard shaped cookies to little dachshunds! And of course, love supporting local businesses:

Solid 4.5 the breakfast croissant was absolutely incredible! Great European coffees and espressos as well. Amazing family owned business from authentic Belgian baker, only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is cleanliness and age of facility. Definitely will return.

Crazy good! I LOVED my curry chicken/beet/papaya salad. It was SO perfect for the beach! Filling but not over-the-top. I should've bought an extra one for later! Apple pie was DELICIOUS too! I tried my best to not devour the whole thing. #fail. There wasn't a crumb left. My friend ordered regular chicken salad, and even though I don't like mayo, it was really good! Peppery.

She also got a roast beef sandwich that could've fed a family it was so huge. Definitely the best value! Prices are reasonable. Service is great. Absolutely perfect for a beach picnic! I'll be back!

It's like visiting a relative for a quaint, comforting meal. It was fairly easy to find and there were a decent amount of parking spaces on a Thursday afternoon. We opted to walk uphill from the cove and it still only took about 10 mins at our toddler-pace. We waited in a quick, socially distanced line and had heart-eyes for all the pastries through the window. Ordering was easy and efficient.

Our group got a cup of soup, cup of spaghetti, two sandwiches, french bread, strawberry rhubarb mini pie, and lemon coconut bar. EVERYTHING was tasty and no crumb was left behind as we dined in with the lovely sounds of French music playing. There's also a bathroom for customers with posters about the Girards and their farm.

Girard's doesn't disappoint in anything it makes. Your only disappointment will be that there aren't enough snacks or meals in a day to try it all. This place pulls you in with its large window case, full of playful sugar cookies (with a hint of lemon). We've visited here 4 times in the last ten years when we're in San Diego. The drive to La Jolla is worth it, just for a cookie.

What a fantastic deli and bakery! Offerings include fresh baked bread, pies, sweet's, and a wonderful espresso. Make sure to stop in and grab something. The staff is very accommodating, and go the extra mile to make the experience superb. Thank you to the staff!

It's very hard to find a cafe where the soup and sandwich are not too salty, but this place seasoned everything just right. Loved my sandwich and vegetarian soup. It was around Thanksgiving and I saw all these people were buying pies. I'm not a pie person, but my husband wanted to try it, so we bought a mini pumpkin pie and brought it back home on our flight. When we tried it, we immediately regretted not having bought a bigger pie! It was super delicious, and I still dream of that pie.
