Great market. Wonderful selection of fruits and vegetables. They have a huge area of natural products. It's very clean they only have three bathrooms. Parking is easy with a big parking lot

Used to be a great store with a large variety of items you can't find in other stores. Over the last couple of years it's become more and more of just Stop & Shop (who owns it now). The variety has become very generic like any other S&S, but with higher prices. I went for the last time today.

Staff aren't very personable and don't tend to talk or respond in kind. They truly seem very reluctant to engage with customers, but the store itself is clean and the prices are fine (thanks to Stop & Shop's buyout). *seems nothing has changed in the two years since I posted this. Will have to shop elsewhere. Better service at Big Y

I just love work here I've made new friends that are very nice and respectful. Other than that it's the best place to shop!

The store stunk so bad I had to leave. All you could smell was the ordor of bad fish when you entered the back end of the store. Trust me it was that bad.

Walked in not knowing where an item was located. Had to ask an associate (Akiva) if he was familiar with said item. He was not sure. However the young man was extremely polite and I will absolutely return to this location in the future even though Whole Foods is more convenient for my daily walk.

This is a well run, upscale marketplace that has most of the usual grocery items you would find at any grocery store, plus some specialty items geared towards upscale and healthy living. Lots of organic, antibiotic free and farm raised items. The prices are higher than a big box grocery store, but the quality of many of the items are higher, the staff is friendlier and they tend to go the extra mile for you.

Check out their weekly specials (flyer or online) to see what is on sale and sometimes you can get some great deals. We usually get their steaks or scallops when they go on sale and they are excellent.

Stop and shop without the hassle. Small store, easy parking, excellent prepared foods selection. Good produde, full service fish and meats. Not the same enormous grocery selection, but they have everything I want or need without the lines.

Great place to work! I love working at the old IGA aka Eastside Market Place is where my grandmother used to so her shopping with me. We live like few blocks from it back in the 90's. Best place to work! We are very friendly workers!

Shockingly disappointed. Just moved back to the Providence area. I remembered ESM (before Stop and Shoo bought them) as an upscale with high quality, interesting selection and high prices. Seems they only kept the high prices. After struggling to substitute virtual everything on my list I got the produce which was so bad old and over priced I left and drove to Market Basket in Attleboro which was so much better and cheaper (I was just looking at cabbage, carrots, and lemons pretty basic stuff).

Another year, another birthday cake that was again outstanding! Donna at the Prov, RI location, I cannot thank you enough. Every year you perfect any design I give you and make the most beautiful & tasty cakes for my family. You are extremely talented. The HUGE smiles on my boys faces every time they see their cake is something truly special. Thanks again so much. Sincerely, Sara Colon

It pains me to write this review. I've been coming here for years and I loved doing so and I didn't mind paying extra because it was worth it. Like many others have said recently it's a completely different market and not in a good way. Every time I go now their stock is so low or completely bare. But if you go to stop and shop they have it.

I get so frustrated and angered that what used to be a 3x a week destination has become only out of necessity. I go out of my way to Cranston to go to Dave's which is a far superior market. kind of like how Eastside market used to be back in the good old days.

Stop and Shop has ruined this place, as other commenters have described. Might as well go to a regular S&S where you can use your card.

Once a great neighborhood market continues to decline, especially in the quality of prepared foods

Loved this place before it was integrated into the Stop and Shop foot print. Still some high end quality items and excellent prepared foods, but too much now is stop and shop private label. Checkout is always quick.

So apparently I'm not the only one who thought the men working at the deli were creepy. Also, Whole Foods' prices are most times equal, if not, cheaper than this place.

One of my most trusted grocery stores in Providence; this place is super close to where I live and it's a quick walk to get all of my food. Fulfills most of my needs (except for my beloved Tapatio hot sauce, a girl can dream) but it's easy to get quality meats, dairy, the few vegetables that I eat, and more! They also sell beautiful flower bouquets Everytime I go, the space is clean and goods are easy to find; I love looking at those tags displaying affordable prices.

If you're a college student or faculty, there's a 5% discount every day! Just show them your school ID. There's also a senior (65+) discount. One of the best parts about Eastside is it's College Night, where the first 200 students get a big bag of free food, and there's also a variety of samples spread throughout the store to potentially find your next favorite snack.

These happen once in the fall and once in spring, get there like 20 minutes early! Also please take your reusable tote bags! If you don't have one, they provide you with cute paper bags.

About 3 years ago I was a HUGE defender of Eastside Marketplace. Yes, they're expensive, but the quality was good, and it's worth supporting local businesses. Sadly, all that has changed now that they're owned by Stop & Shop. The quality has gone way, way down and the prices haven't changed to match. The produce section is just sad.

They still stock a few local products like Sacred Cow granola and Dave's coffee, but the Stop & Shop store brand products are everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I'm not above shopping at Stop & Shop! But I used to go to Eastside Marketplace when I was looking for something different, and that's clearly over now.

Great market great selection of groceries, and a line of ethnic foods. Deli is great has everything. Nice meat department. Fish department. Nice salad bar, hot bar. Table's to sit at an eat. Coffee, pastry. Lottery tickets. Pay your utilities there. Very clean for the amount of traffic. Plenty of parking. Handicapped parking spots. Plus on a convenient bus route. Go check it out for yourself you won't be disappointed. pleasant staff.

Last night I thought about taking a Whole Foods trip and the thought of the impending "storm" immediately gave me the realization that it would be insane there. And I didn't want to go to stop and shop because I don't like their produce section so I said "babe, let's drive into our old hood and go to east side" well, what a shocker to me when going down the aisle I realized, shit I drove all this way just to go to stop and shop!

I had no idea they had been bought and after a skim of the website, I see they didn't want me to know. Do they think I'm stupid? Do they think I don't see your natures brand? I think it's bull that they don't tell you this is a stop and shop and don't give you the equivalent sales or give you your gas points! What the hell.

I feel lied to! I drove all this way! Waaaaah! I will say the produce section is still better than most typical stop and shops, and the cheese and hot foods section is impressive. But why was my rotisserie chicken 10 dollars when I could get the same thing flavored BBQ for 6.99 at the stop and shop I drove by to get here! Shame on you for trying to pretend you're still a local place. Shame! Shame! I will not return. I only pay extremely high prices for things when I can console myself by saying"at least I'm supporting local buisness"

So expensive, OMG! Among the ridiculously priced items I spotted were a $9 jar of tomato sauce, $5 cream cheese and cheeses I normally but at Market Basket for $2 for over $4. That said, it was conveniently located and clean and the cashier was friendly. I did find some good prices on vitamins (25% off) off and a great deal on some cottage cheese on clearance as it was expiring soon.

You really need to know your prices if you want to shop here. Don't just come in with a list and do all your shopping here because they will take all your money! Worse than Whole Foods for the level of ridiculously priced items!

MISLEADING east siders daily. Ok, so I feel like Eastside Market (Stop & Shop) is trying to pull a fast one on our community. Over the past few years this place has been slowly bought out by STOP & SHOP and over the more recent months, anything associated with Eastside Market has been phased out. Stop & Shop products now make up like 50% of the products here but they continue to call themselves Eastside.

They continue to hang the best of RI Local market banner proudly over the front entrance and well its all a bit misleading. On my last visit I asked the cashier if they would be changing the name and she shrugged her shoulders and didn't know what to say. She did say that personally she thinks they shouldn't because many of the locals have been upset and that would upset them even more.

I recently took out cash to exchange for quarters so I could do my laundry. I walked up to the customer service desk and asked for a roll of quarters. She told me that they could not do that for me any longer as the new ownership has decided to take away that service. ITS A ROLL OF QUARTERS. You get shipments of change Daily. Such an inconvenience and something you should probably reconsider. This used to be a small, independent local grocery store but sadly it is no different than any other large chain grocery retailer out there! RIP Eastside Market.

This is an expensive and modest-sized market that doesn't have the full range of options of a larger place. You can't shop for everything you need for the week here (at least I don't buy paper products or breakfast cereal here!), and I tend to find the fruits and vegetables less ripe and appealing than at other markets. But. this is the closest thing the east side has to a Dave's - you can get fresh bread from all of the fabulous area bakeries (Seven Stars and Olga's), New York kosher/Jewish-style items, pastries and cookies (we'll send if Knead donuts will still be available now that they've opened on Elmgrove). Also, critically important to this neighborhood: discounts are available on certain days for Brown and RISD students - and (thank you!) - faculty and staff, and seniors; and, on most Thursday mornings a kosher butcher (what?).

Stop & Shop owns the market now and is gradually taking away some of the things that make this place special. I'm hoping the changes won't go too far in that direction.
