Really love this market in some areas and not so much in others. Cheese section and butcher/deli are really great. The "cheese lady" is knowledgeable and so helping when selecting premium cheeses. Bravo. The staff is really nice and helpful and overall the experience is a good one. Whomever manages the produce section should understand that tomatoes should never be refrigerated if you care about the flavor.
Anyone in the food industry knows this is a rule however, there are those that overlook it for cost savings as tomatoes degrade more rapidly without refrigeration. Tomatoes are expensive these days and to pay $$$ for tasteless refrigerated maters is not something I will do. I may have to drive to Oliver's or Wholefoods where at least they are considering what's best for the customer rather than their bottom line.

Taking a short trip to Bodega and Halfmoon Bay. Stopped in after looking at Yelp. This is a jewel. I was looking for some cheese, mortadella, presciotto, , and other munches. Great selections of all I wanted. This market is packed with all kinds of warm dishes, salads, antipasto bar. This market will be in the regular when I head to Bodega in the future.

I was visiting your store and you have an employee there in your meat department who has a tattoo on his face and wears a satin mask I will never shop at your store again if you hire people like that to work for you. He was rude and disrespectful and showed a complete lack of how to treat customers. I really think someone should rethink your hiring process.
This pandemic is a serious issue and should not be made fun of by a satin mask, this person is representing your store and should take this issue seriously. He showed a total lack of how to treat your loyal customers. Something needs to be done or you have lost a long time customer.

It's overpriced - but my main complaint is the sourness and hostility the management puts on display. So unhappy and unhelpful. Is major bad energy just inherent here? It just feels like bad will here. I'm sure it must trickle down to the employees as well. So much turnover - always new faces that seem stressed they can barely communicate.
We don't shop much here as it's only gotten worse over the years. All, be sure to check expiry dates on products as I've put way too much trust into purchasing items only to find out that pint of vanilla yogurt expires on tomorrow. Also, we are in a pandemic- please retire the open salad bar. Gross. Lesson learned.

They're a fine market in many ways, and I've enjoyed going here for 11 years. The selection of certain items could be better (not enough organic, no decent dog food options, no tempeh). This poor review is because I recently found out they use rat poison (rodenticide boxes)! I live nearby and have found 4 dead owls this year (all young with no injuries) and a sick one that was able to be rehabilitated at the wildlife rescue.
These casualties were all from rat poison! Even cats, dogs, and children die from rat poison. For heaven's sake, use rat traps and/or a rat exclusion service like a decent human being! Killing off the natural predators of rats is not only evil, but stupid. It will only make the rat problems worse.

Great local speciality grocery store located in Downtown Petaluma. They also have a variety of slices of JM Rosen Cheesecakes available for sale, which I highly recommend! I stopped by on a Monday afternoon, and they had a few different cheesecake slices available: blueberry, mango, fudge, fantasy chocolate (with a layer of chocolate cake), and amaretto.
They also sell whole cheesecakes for $29.99. The cheesecakes are located in one of the refrigerated sections next to their deli. I tried the Blueberry Cheesecake ($4.99, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=9I1ivtRmjhOj0C4x31IoiQ&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg), which was DELICIOUS. The blueberry flavor was very prominent, and the cheesecake was the perfect thickness but still had a smooth consistency.
It also wasn't too sweet, and the crust was great- a must try for any cheesecake/dessert lover! In addition to the cheesecake, they also have a variety of baked goods available from both local bakeries and also baked in house. Prices were very reasonable for a speciality grocery store, and their staff was very friendly. I will definitely be back for more cheesecake from JM Rosen! Parking was easy to find in their lot, since plenty of spots were available.

This market is a bit more upscale so, som things cost more. But, the selection is great. The produce is fresh and delicious. I wish they had more fresh bread options. I think I just visit too late and miss them sometimes. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. I especially love the deli/meats team and cashiers. They have a fantastic variety of cheeses and wines. It's a special place to shop at. It's across town for us so, we only visit occasionally. But, they are worth the time. Oh yes.great fresh baked sweets!

It has all the basics of a decent grocery store plus an above average deli. Unfortunately the butcher and several of the other deli employees are not costumer friendly. Combined with above average prices. With so many other great choices in the area it's not the place I choose first. I appreciate the fact that it's a locally owned store and not a chain. So I do stop by when I want a Cali roll from their sushi department (it's rly good) and, shower the butcher/deli workers with kindness.

I love this little market, supporting The Locals is the best thing you can do; one of my favorite things is the cheese variety, im amazed by the selection they have. I enjoying walking in by the smell of the food they have eight in the entrance all ready to go; so far staff have being very friendly all the time i have gone, also the pastries and sweet dessert are KEEPERS! You can't go wrong with whatever choice you decide.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel shunned by the employees if you didn't graduate from Petaluma high school? Seriously, not an eye contact, an acknowledgement, hello, can I help you please?! The meat counter had six people working, ( Tuesday morning), I stood there in front of the counter, one other customer, and me. Had to practically beg this guy, middle aged, short brown hair, to help me!
No smile, no how can I help you, No thank you! Cashiers avoid eye contact, no hi or thanks! Cold Looks, acting like they don't care, they're better than everyone else; hello, you're a grocery clerk! Two managers in the liquor aisle acted like I they didn't see me, or couldn't be bothered! This happens every time I go there!
I won't darken their doorstep anymore, I got the message if you weren't born in Petaluma, and you have a higher education than Petaluma high, you're the great unwashed!

I admit, I go to Petaluma Market every day. I do love the smells of the food bar, fresh fruit and flowers. And it's not a mega market chain. The workers know what they are doing. The beer isle is jaw dropping. With Pliny the Elder in stock everyday. What could be wrong with this grocery store? Well, it's pricey for most basic things. If you are going for milk, eggs, butter-- you're gonna pay at least 50% more than most other stores.
But they do have deals that other places don't. Sushi is very fresh and high quality. The hot food is enticing and makes sense for the most part. The meat department sells local meat and the higher price is worth it. Petaluma Market is part of my shopping matrix for food, but I avoid big shops there as it hurts the wallet when I have done that. But I look forward to my daily small shops because is a damn nice experience.

Petaluma Market is the friend you have in your circle that annoys the hell out of you, but you still hang with her/him from time to time anyway. You know that friend. I had high hopes for Petaluma Market, becoming more excited because it is walking distance from home. But yo, guys! $6.00 for creme fraiche? How can you be double the price compared to the City?
I came here expecting to find local everything; bread, cheese, meats, flowers, you name it. All you gave me were maxed out prices. Don't get me started on the cheese. I bet that sample bite I took was $3.00! They do have a nice selection of local cheeses, milk, eggs and butter. A dozen Clover eggs are $6.00 though. I think they should be half the cost, isn't Clover dairy just over the hill?
The fruit and vegetable section has a variety of organic produce that will make you turn vegetarian. Not really but the presentation is so nice it makes me want to eat all the veggies! Those prices are at least market rate. It is also neat, organized and clean. A small detail that I need when grocery shopping. If it's not clean on the outside, imagine what it looks like in the back!
For those who like juices and specialty sodas, whoa nelly, there are so many options! There's even a nice selection of craft beer for the aficionados. Bonus that the staff is super friendly. You might walk in hating your life because you just left the market but forgot the butter and had to return. Don't worry, when you leave Petaluma Market your day will be reset to birds chirping over rainbows. Thank you checkout dude/ette! Petaluma Market: Jay, we have that thing you need. Me: Nah girl you too rich for my blood. Ten minutes later. I'm on my way.
