Born in China's Taishan Province in 1905, Mr. Charles Foon Wong, founder of The Canton Resturant, moved to the United States at a young age seeking better prospects. After serving in the Army in World War II, Charles opened the Eastern Star Cafe, with his nephew, Gene Guen, in Northwest, Washington DC. Family-run business with a sizeable menu of classic Chinese cuisine, some American eats and a lunch buffet.

The bbq Chinese style pork appetizer was really good. Everything else was pretty underwhelming. Portions are good. Food is ok. Not worth my drive from severna park. The blonde woman who took my phone order and handled the transaction when I came to pick up, was great. Super friendly and hospitable. She gets 5 stars.

Read a few reviews and someone said that this was a schezwan restaurant. And so we went. We were driving through Annapolis. Interesting setup for the restaurant. It's not in a strip mall but in a little building of its own. The parking is in the back and there's a sloping driveway that puts you in the front of the establishment and a small little garden in the front.
They have about three tables for seating outside and we chose to eat outside although they were allowing people to dine in. Well Szechuan restaurant it's not. But we were hungry and didn't have the time to go looking around so we decided to eat there. We ordered the Szechuan shrimp, orange beef, and another beef dish whose name I don't remember. This is your standard Chinese fair that you get in thousands of Chinese eateries across the country.
And in that regard they didn't disappoint. The taste of all the dishes was on point. The Schezwan shrimp was not Schezwan shrimp as you might find it in a schezwan Chinese food restaurant but it was the Schezwan food that you get in a regular Chinese restaurant. The shrimp was plentiful in the dish and they were a good size and they tasted fresh. The beef dishes although similar did taste subtly different.
Service was friendly and communication was easy. We got sturdy plastic plates as we were dining out. A generous supply of the red chili flakes oil-based sauce because we like our food spicy. And when we were done eating we cleared up plates and took them inside to dispose them off and the friendly lady who took our order gave us an extra box of rice just because she realized we needed some more - on the house. Very reasonably priced restaurant, large portions, friendly service, fresh food, and an interesting location. Five stars from me.

Sad to write this because we really wanted to love this place since it's close to our house. Ordered for takeout, ready at the right time. Upon walking in the restaurant it smelled kind of odd- almost stale. Chicken and veggie lomein was pretty bland, the veggie dumplings were bad (weird filling and super thick dough). The egg roll and shrimp in garlic sauce were pretty good, but the shrimp in garlic sauce was full of interesting vegetables. Idk. just didn't hit the mark. We won't be ordering again.
