Chef Alan's American Bistro

This was my first visit and WOW! Very nice place, quant ambiance, great food selections. The crab dip appetizer and Asian shrimp noodle bowl is excellent! Prices are reasonable four people could eat for under $100.00. Plenty of parking in lot next to entrance. Friendly staff. Nice open diningroom plus bar sections. I recommend!

Clean, good service, basic lunch menu of well prepared food, but limited beer menu. A pleasant place to have lunch, but nothing special.

I have eaten here for years and I've never had a bad meal! Excellent appetizers, great entrees and a very nice selection at the bar. The menu has everything from seafood & steaks, to pizza & delicious wings!

Good food fair price, this place has been in area for some time. Food and service made me wonder why we stayed away so long. Look forward to going back for the Easter brunch.

The food was definitely worth the price, customer service was excellent, we had no complaints at all. I would highly recommend this place!

Fish and chips were very good--the fish was cooked perfectly, moist and flakey, and the "chips" turned out to be waffle-cut fries which were also perfectly cooked and salted. Glad I had malt vinegar at home though since it did not come with it. Caesar salad was a little heavy on the dressing but I did not ask for it on the side so I guess that's a little bit on me.

The chicken on the salad was very good though. My wife said the California avocado burger was probably the best she's had since we moved here a little over a year ago. My mother-in-law reports that the chicken tenders were perfectly cooked, moist and very, um, tender. We're all too full to try the cheesecake right now but it looks pretty good as well.

Our order was delivered by DoorDash. No issues to report. Prices seemed pretty reasonable, and the preparation time (at least on a Wednesday evening) was faster than expected. We will be ordering from Alan's again, thanks!

Wonderful lunch! It was more is, atmosphere was great a our waitress was on the ball. I noticed that there no other waitress in the room but she did a fantastic job getting everyone's orders out on split time.

We went there for Thanksgiving. It was a last minute decision and we did not have a reservation but they took us anyway. The food was hot and the service was good. They had a really nice spread out for Thanksgiving. I found the price to be a bit high at over $120 for 3 people but I have been there on a non-holiday and the price is reasonable. I will definitely visit there again.

Best Thanksgiving buffet ever! We've been going for years, they couldn't have it last year and we are so glad it was back this year. Great variety of food and delicious!

Crusty heinz ketchup bottles with cheap ketchup inside them! Salt and pepper were no better filthy. Salad was wilted cucumbers were a 1/2inch thick and the croutons will break teeth. Place went way downhill

Now there was one server who was wonderful! Other than that the experience was horrible. I rented a party room here for a surprise party. The food was cold, undercooked leaving guests sick. When telling them the food was undercooked the other server at least would take some peoples steak back and get it cooked. Although she had to go back 3 times.

As for the chicken my guests were sick. I told about it and the server said maybe it's the wine they use. Smh, my guests didn't even leave the restaurant yet and the food for them the birthday girl even was sick. A lot of attitudes from young servers, bad food, bad customer service, will never go there again!

Just ordered the shepherds pie and crab dip via an online delivery service.the food is hot and delicious! I will definitely keep this place in my favorites when I stay in Reading.

My honey and I loved watching the Olympics at the bar. Our bartender was so awesome, Providing great conversation. The pot stickers are to die for, and I love a piece of salmon over their salad. Good times!

Our waitress was outstanding. Wish I could remember her name. Food n service very good. We will return!

I haven't been there for probably like 14 15 years and I could say when I went to place has not change at all and just one BIG disappointment. it look like place was kind of falling apart things need to be replaced and clean. The food just horrible I had chicken that was so plain as if they just soaked it in lime juice ( no taste)and the salads was bad and the prices are just beyond ridiculous for the little tiny food you get. when you can go somewhere else and get double the food so much better and fresh. It's just sad because it was a great place to go to at one time. you could tell they haven't kept up over the years.just run down.!

Old Skool Berks County choice that still delivers some fantastic crab dip. Been years since I patronized this establishment. Happy to report, dip is still very good; creamy, cheesy, w/ slices of toasted baguette. (Nice when places keep things the way we remember and don't water down a dish.) Fish and chips was good- decent portion, crisp & glistening, but not soggy or drenched in oil. "Chips" were actually a waffle type fry that I imagine is served with all their sandwiches, but still good.

This is not 5-star dining- but they delivered a reasonable meal paired with a classic appetizer at a good price that left me full and satisfied. Go with the right expectation and I think you'll be content. Satisfactory enough to be put back into my dining rotation.

Every time that I have gone there my experience has been completely amazing. Very friendly staff, well-dressed well-mannered! The food is absolutely marvelous! It's the perfect little getaway for everyone! What more can I say then get over there if you want to have a good time a great food! On certain hours it seems a little quiet in there but you know what even that quiet is bliss! It's just the kind of place that you need to go to get away going to have a perfect date!

Ordered takeout from Chef Alan's tonight. It was the best take out we have had in a very long time. The filet was done perfect, the french onion soup and crab dip were fabulous and the rotisserie chicken was juicy and delicious. Every single one of us thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. As two side notes, the takeout containers were very nice so that there were no spills on the way home and everyone working in the restaurant was following masking and distancing procedures. Kuddos to you Chef Alan's, we will be back.

In town for work and decided to give this place a shot. I ordered the Ribeye and it was delicious! It was cooked perfect! My side was the rosemary red potatoes.oh geez wonderful! Service was good and meal prep time was reasonable. Would definitely recommend!

I called on a Monday night I spoke with a manager by the name of Tiffany. I asked her did she have all you can eat wings and she laughed at me and told me know so I hung up the phone. I thought about it I called back and said do you have a wing special? She says yes half price on wings tonight. So I asked her may I speak with the manager. She told me she was the manager.

I stated with good customer service It would be advantageous to offer half-price wings. I noticed when I called back she waited for six rings to answer the phone and she was laughing when she answered. I told her thank you and someone referred me but I don't believe that I'll be spending my money there. My fiance went by there three minutes later because we were right around the corner he walked in. Tiffany and the other waitress/bartender were discussing it and laughing with the customers around the bar. I came in a few minutes later. And she stayed with the manager wasn't there to him

Best petite filet mignon ever. Buttery soft. Crab cake good as usual. Soft rolls. Dessert was apple crisp and chocolate lava.

This was our first time at this restaurant and I have to say we were not disappointed. Starting with the drinks, fabulous, appetizers were great and dinner was outstanding. Food was delicious and the service was superb. We will definitely be returning.

Quick service. Great food. Highly recommend. I got the Cobb Salad. Huge and delicious. May 2019. Filet Mignon and Crabcake fabulous special for $19.99 with 2 sides. Highly recommend. Best buttery filet mignon ever. One of the top 3 steaks that I have ever eaten. Nice hot rolls. Also Molten Chocolate cake and Apple Crisp are delicious.

I was part of a party of 7 celebrating my sister's birthday. Everyone found something to suit his palate, as Chef Alan's has a large menu. My family members raved about the crab dip. The prices are good, both for food and alcohol. I got a vegetable pizza and a beer that hit the spot. Our server, Sarah, was very attentive to our group and even brought a special dessert for my sister.

It was pretty slow on a Sunday evening. Our corner table was kind of dark; the lamp over the table wasn't on. It was also very quiet when we were there; needed some music.

Great place to stop in. Thursday night lobster feast for 19.99 was great. 8oz lobster tail, 6oz lump crab cake, 4 shrimp, 4 hush puppies, and 2 sides. can't beat it. Will definitely be back!

We had a group lunch reservation for 40(which turned into 60) after a family member's funeral. We arrived an hour early, and they were more than willing to accommodate in the private room that was already set up. ONE man (Alex) took care of all of us! He was polite, respectful of our situation, and all-around fantastic. And the food was fresh and tasty too. Highly recommend for a group dining event

Food here is usually good. Half chicken is good. Italian wedding soup is good staff is good. Gets boring here sometimes

One of my favorite places to go to! They have the best chicken quesadilla and clams. They always have bar specials and the staff is always friendly.

Quiet dinner for 2. My husband had the seafood feast, I had the land and sea. Each meal was $20. Every single bite was delicious. My filet could have been cut with a butter knife. Well worth every penny! Our new go to spot!

The food was good and the drinks are cold. Unfortunately the service was awful. When we walked in the hostesses (all 3 of them) looked at our party of 4 like we each had 2 heads. I said "hi" and after they were done staring they finally said "table for 4?" As I said, the food was good and the drinks were cold. But at the end of our meal, one of the people in our party asked for the check.

She brought the check, he put cash in the envelope, she took it and walked away and never came back! She never ever asked if we wanted change, never came back to check on us. In fact we never saw her again. We had to ask the bartender for to go boxes before we left. I will definitely not be going back.

If you are looking for a family-friendly restaurant with a comfortable yet classy atmosphere, this is the place for you. The food was great, plenty of menu options, good gluten-free choices, and easy on the wallet. Service was exceptional and quite friendly. Definitely coming back!

This place gets mistakenly overlooked in West Reading. Although not the most modern and up to date atmosphere, the place provides phenomenal quality foods at exceptional value. Bar service is great and always charming. the crab dip is the best in the county, by far! I will return again and again. Friday is half priced apps all day!

Was seated right away figured it was going to get everything fast. Fast was only getting seated. Waiter came to say he'll take our order in a second 15 minutes later he took our drinks. Order appetizers which came out cold, the we placed our food order it was wrong order 1 (one)crab cake 2 were on the order, second meal was cold it was prime rib abd the beef was warm and the worst of all I always judge service by how the staff keeps my drink refreshed had to ask for it to be refilled. Mind you this is not the first time I've been there, will give it a second thought before going again.

I get to Chef Allan's 2 or 3 times a month. There is a friendly atmosphere, great service and incredible food. The only problem I find is that whatever I order, the aromas from other dishes served near me, make me wish I had ordered that dish. One of my criteria of an establishment is seeing how the staff likes working for the business. What I've seen at Chef Allan's shows that employees and management enjoy each other's company and the turnover of employees is non existent.

Happy employees make for more attentive service and servers getting to know their customers taste to recommend meals that the customers will enjoy. I recommend this place to anyone looking for an incredible dining experience with reasonable prices in West Reading.

I wish I could find something nice to say about this place but I can't. Service was awful. It took about a half hour for our salad to arrive and bread was a good 15 minutes after that (even though we requested it numerous times). I ordered a roast beef sandwich. It arrived totally dried out. It was hard to identify it as meat. I don't think there was a patron under 60. Just keep on driving by.

Drove over an hour to the area for a show at the Santander. Was in Chef Alan's for over a hour and all they felt the need to serve me was a glass of water and a million excuses. Finally left and ate at Subway across the street so I didn't miss my show. My review is simple, one star cause I can't give zero. Suggest you eat anywhere else. Manager was not nice either.

Was one of the few restaurants open on Monday night. I was seated quickly and warmly. I ordered the scallops and crab cake with mixed veggies add my side, was pretty good for a casual place.
