Catfish On Wheels Catering Service was founded by James Varnell and his wife Joyce, in 1987. But, the most important part of Catfish On Wheels originally began years before. It was the now world-famous fish batter created by James, for the backyard fish fries, attended by his family, and a number of neighborhood friends in Channelview, Texas. The recipe today referred to as "Our Daddy's Ol' Secret Recipe" by James' sons, Bruce and Brett Varnell, is as good today as it was at those backyard fish fries.

I called twice in March and left messages no one ever called me back! I called again in April and the lady would NOT take my order and said don't order until the week of. I also tried to pay a deposit and she wouldn't take my order. Here I am a week and a half away and they tell me that they're booked. I'm so poised with this company. A company I trusted because not only did I use them before but t mother started using them regularly to cater for her company until she retired.

It's fair cooked food catered service, I have had much better. Some employees problematic w/ each other. Not sure about how sterile (washed w/a water hose outside) the ice chests raw food & ice are kept in, that they use for cooking and ice for drinks. They refill bottles of condiments instead of buying new ones. Personal knowledge.

The food is great! My school has been using them for the past few years to cater our end of the year luncheon. The food is always served hot. The fish is delicious and the shrimp are pretty good, just more on the size of popcorn shrimp. The service is very good efficient and friendly. I would definitely recommend them to others. By the way the fish is still good when you let it get cold, this is a major plus as I was really busy while trying to enjoy my lunch this year.

My work used this place for a project lunch. The fried shrimp were the best but everything else was great too. Not gourmet by any means but they aren't trying to be. It had everything you would get in your typical catfish meal: catfish, coleslaw, beans, fries, tartar sauce, ketchup, sweet and unsweet tea, and apparently fried chicken fingers upon request. Oh yeah, and hush puppies! Gotta have those! Give these guys a shot for your larger catered event. you won't be disappointed!

I accompanied my parents to this church fish fry and they mentioned it was good & boy there were! i would've eaten more of this delicious mix of fried catfish, shrimp, hushpuppies, and fries but i just went to a previous dinner engagement with my husband. i regret not taking a box home because i'm craving this stuff now. i hope to see them again next year and this time i will be bringing my appetite!
