So, so sad to see what has happened to this long time favorite restaurant. We have been coming here for 20+ years and it's heartbreaking. The ribs were cold, the brisket had no meat, the turkey was dry, the sides were out of a can and what happened to the slaw. It would have been better for them to have closed versus ruin the Woodlands name.

Heart breaking. I went to ASU 40 years ago and have lived in different parts of the country but always get back to this lovely area and always eat at Woodlands. No more. So sad. The new owners seem to truck over their substandard food from Peddlin Pig. The pulled pork was super dry. I had to go looking for one of the few Carolina style vinegar bbq sauce bottles.
Other sauces were bland. And the sides were horrible. I don't think I've ever been unable to eat Mac and Cheese, but this stuff was gross. Just an off flavor. Really, nothing was good. Clearly a lot came from some food services company.

We have been coming to Woodlands BBQ for 24+ years. We drive 1 1/2 hours to get there approximately 4 times a year. It was worth the drive. The food we were used to is no longer there and barely edible. The menu has changed drastically, and the bbq platters no longer include corn on the cob and jalapeno cornbread. The pricey beef bbq ($18) platter was dry and tasted like it had been charred on the grill in the back, no smokey taste at all.
The potatoe salad consist of egg, potatoes, mayo and mustard. No pickles or onions, very plain. The hushpuppies were ok, probably frozen. The cornbread is not the same. We both left with half eaten dinners and brought the rest to our dogs. We thought something wasnt right when we pulled in and the parking lot was almost empty. Peddlin Pig has taken over a once thriving business, and turned it into a horrible dining experience. We will be looking for another restaurant to frequent when visiting Boone. We definitely wont be back.

Used to be a five star review years ago. I was spoiled by getting to come here and we would relish the moment that we where seated. Now the food is a bit low in quality. In the Boone area it is a great taste compared to many local shops, but there was a ton of grease. I do not really want pig grease as it is basically the bottom of the barrel. There is no reason that some of the other items where definitely pre frozen, chicken and sides I believe. There is some good quality I believe left as in the past it was the best. The service seemed short and the prices where not matched.

At this point Woodlands barbecue is an institution! They were there when I attended Appalachian State University 30 years ago and they're still there. Actually, they were already very well known to the students and locals in the area even before that. Their barbecue is as good as anybody's with a fantastic smoke flavor that's to die for!
There smoked wings are awesome!l and they still do it the old-school way! It's the whole wing including the tip! It's the only place I know of that you can still get them that way. Cheers!

I used to LOVE this place. I bragged on it so much when relatives came to town a few months back we went there to eat. Was not nearly as good. Okay. Maybe they had an off day. My daughter and I went once more after that but the food still was nowhere on the level it had been. Not bad enough for a bad review so I left it. But yesterday I found out Woodlands had been bought out by another barbecue place but kept the name. Deceitful! If you really like The Peddling ' Pig Bbq then you will really like this place but if you want the real Woodlands food, the time is past.

Amazing little hole in the wall with really great pulled pork, ribs, and smoked wings. Love the rustic old location. They have both sauces here, Eastern vinegar and Western tomato and both were very good, the eastern sauce is spicier than most BBQ joints that are actually out East though (which I loved) but beware if you can't handle a little spice.

Visited with the family and I have to say the bbq here (aka chopped pork - what should be the star of the show) was terrible. There was little smoky flavor and the tough muscle hadn't broken down. I believe they are cutting corners and not letting it cook past 200°. It was barely edible. My kid did enjoy his loaded fries with brisket and the hush puppies were good (although $6 for hush puppies is preposterous when legit bbq places give them out for free).

My ribs where taken out of the freezer and put them the microwave. I asked the bartender to stick her finger inside the ribs so she could feel the frozen meat, the bartender knew I was right. My understanding is that this place is under new management. I feel sorry for the bartender she was so embarrassed.

Very nice BBQ style atmosphere and prompt service. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Large groups and families were coming and going. Food came right out which made us happy. Full bar and beer selection. Pulled pork was very good and so were the sides. Loved the fried okra. Corn bread didnt seem the freshest for a Fri night. Brisket was the right part of the cut, with lots of fat and tender.
Not that many sauce selections though, with just the vinegar style. They had a few small mishaps with the service but very quick to fix. For quick, good quality food and service i would definitely go back. Will probably stick to the pork options next time.

Like others have stated, been eating here for many years and since it has changed owners its not the same place anymore. I ate there this week thinking I was going to go in like always and enjoy a nice lunch. I was wrong. The place is legendary and they are running it into the ground with the menu, food prices and quality of food. It's very sad, wish that we could all do something about it.

Wow! How can such a good and fun place go 180 so quickly? We used to love coming here while visiting our nearby college student. Went there over Christmas holiday and it was so different than I remember. First, I learned that the business was sold and new people are operating it. The menu prices were jacked up noticeably higher. The food was decent; no longer exceptional. I thought the place was empty due a fluke, but after eating and paying the bill, I feel like we won't be coming back. Too many other options. Such a let down!

Something changed in the past few months. Used to be my favorite spot. There are less sides and they all taste different. The cornbread was the size of an icecube. Good service. Beans are more savory than before. The taste is closer to chili. Collard greens aren't as refreshing as before, a little more greasy and mushy, but they're not bad.

I used to love Woodlands. It was my favorite/only choice for food when in blowing rock. I eat there this week for lunch and was hoping they didn't change anything with the new ownership but sadly the only things that I found that wasn't changed was the mild sauce and hush puppies. No more chopped beef bbq, the slaw changed, the chopped pork is. different, didn't see baby backs on the menu, the burritos were gone. Worse than the loss of menu items was how bad the food was.
I hope they either realize the error of their ways or when business turns south maybe the old owners will buy it back and bring back the old woodlands we all know and love. I hope the new owners do well but why change a successful formula. It says peddling pig but it's not even as good as peddling pig.

We came tonight bc a friend recommended this place. I ordered the brisket plate. That was the worst brisket I've ever had. I hate being so harsh, but It was grilled to warm it up and was super hard and had no flavor. When I reheat my smoked brisket at home, It's never like that. So add some flavor and don't grill it as long.

I used to love this place! The BBQ was the best for so many years. App State used to sell their BBQ at all their football games. The BBQ always tasted moist and melted in your mouth. Last night we ate there after an ASU game. We ordered the pull pork plate for $13.00. The BBQ was cold, dry and tuff! I could hardly chew it. Both my friends had the same issued.
The green beans were good but the fried okra was ok at best. I heard the business sold to a new owner awhile back. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the quality, but I won't be back. If it wasn't for our great waitress, I would have given it one star. She was very good.

OMG 3 of my 65 year old friends walked in without masks. They only had 2 masks for sale for a $1 which I was happy to pay for, plus one of my friends had a mask on. We only where missing one mask and the young hostess told us to leave. I asked why they didn't have more masks for sale she just said we had to leave. My friends walked out and the help with the manager came charging as my friends who had already walked out.
After they charged me I walked out. I called later and the manager said he knew me and was disappointed in me, ha I was very I was disappointed in him. He should of walked outside and talked to me instead of charging me out of the restaurant. Good luck woodlands, you lost my business after 18 years, I guess your happy that I will not be coming back. Ha.

Food and service was very good. For a Ma and Pop establishment definitely 5 star experience. The wife and I got the "The Pig Out" and wow what a lot of food. Green beans, fried okra, sweet potato fries, french fries and hush pupies were all delicious. Now the meat whoah. so much meat very moist and tender. The BBQ sauces are very good as well. The hot BBQ sauce is very running but I used either the mild or medium (couldn't remember) to thicken it up and boom.

Went into Woodlands Sunday at noon. Not a lot of people for a wkend and the time. It's not the old Woodlands. Not the same menu. Smaller portions for MUCH higher price. Not the same. Food was not good. No corn. on cob. Not offering on menu. Can't buy sauce in a bottle. Pint cost $8.00 This is our last time. We are done with Woodlands and it was our favorite place when going to Boone. Would drive up sometimes just to eat there. Sad to say it's probably on its way out! Don't go unless u want to waste your money or everything else is to long of a line!

I have visited Woodlands 2-3 dozen times over the last 40+ years. (ASU Grad). It had been consistently good, up until my last visit. The Chopped pork, was not chopped but pulled, which would have been okay had it not been cold. The brisket was quick cooked at high heat which dried it out and was more jerky than brisket. The sides were so small they could fit in a condiment cup. The service was good, which is why I gave it one star. I was told the restaurant was under new management. It needs to go back to the old management/manager.

One star is way to much credit for Woodlands now owned and operated by Peddlin Pig. The menu, service and horrible attitude of the staff is worse than miserable. Way to expensive for the terrible food you get. Example: $18.00 for 6 wings! The original owners have retired and Peddlin Pig has taken over. DO NOT waste your time or money. The server had his thumb in my baked beans setting my paper plate in front of me.
My step father was told to put his mask on, yet the staff had their mask hanging off one ear. And in the bar area where a group of loud rowdy patrons were not told to wear their masks as they were standing around. Not to mention being over served their alcoholic drinks. Bartender was clearly disturbed that we sat at the bar, felt like we were in his way. Woodlands BBQ is no more.don't go! I left wanting to hit up the closest McDonalds.

This place has gone down hill bad. The food was good about a year ago. It is now below average BBQ. This place will not let you in without a mask. They have a sign that says your political or religious views do not matter. Food was cold and not very good. Pork was dry. Staff makes it clear that they do not care about their customers. Overall horrible experience and this place is off the list.

We have been stopping in this restaurant frequently on our visits from Atlanta. It WAS one of our favorite places up until today. If your looking to visit the Woodlands BBQ of old.visit in your memory. Don't waste your time. -Modified Menu/Jacked up prices -Food quality was not the same-cold, fried pickles undercooked -Arrived around 7 and wait staff was more focused on getting the restaurant cleared out than taking care of guest -Last but not least, evidently there is NO dress code for wait staff.
Even in my skinnier days lol I would NOT have been seen in some of those ultra short short. There is a time and a place and a restaurant is NOT the time or the place. We hate to hear of the new ownership and especially at this level. But we do wish the previous owners the best in their retirement. Best of luck

Ate here years ago and the food was amazing. Today I was highly disappointed from the second I walked in the door! First of all, the young girls working needed to wear clothes more appropriate for working a. job. They looked like they woke up and threw on an oversized sweatshirt over their pajamas with short shorts and came to work. Very unprofessional! Secondly, the service was slow and we had to ask for things more than once. Third, they were out of items.
It was only 12:30! How are you only open an hour and a half and you are already out of items! Lastly, the food wasn't even good, it was mediocre and very overpriced! I won't be back!

The Turkey was cooked well and the collard greens were delicious! But they gave me cornbread instead of hush puppies and it was not good, tasted like Lawry's or something like it, very salty. The potato salad was drenched in sauce. The pulled pork was the greasiest we have ever had. The fries were generic, undercooked and flavorless frozen fries.
The sauce was spilled in the bag before I got to the car. Which meant not only less sauce, but the bottom of the container was soaked in sauce which meant we had to leave the dish in the bag while eating in the car. The hostesses were nice though

The service was great. Our server was cheerful and attentive. My husband and I both got the chopped pork sandwich and fries. The buns were stale, and the fries were hard and over-salted, we barely ate any of them. The meat was good and the sauce is amazing. We ordered the fried pickles appetizer. $8 for 4 pickle spears is outrageous. We noticed the menu shrank and the prices went way up.
After 40 years, it's no surprise the owners were ready to retire, but it's sad to see such a clear difference in quality and experience right away. I didn't even realize there were new owners until after we left. I thought maybe they had hit a rough patch, but maybe not.

This is the worst barbecue I have ever had. Absolute garbage. Maybe my mistake was ordering an hour before they were closing because it was dry filled with fat baby back order looked like a bunch of ends not even a strip. Ask for bread the rolls were stale the potato salad is soup. Feeling ripped off whoever's running that kitchen does not know what they're doing.

Whoever gave this place anything lower than a 5 must have just been cranky! We had amazing service from the moment we walked in the door until we left. The brisket was tender and extremely flavorful. The fried okra was crispy. The mild bbq sauce is delicious and the hot was VERY hot! I would definitely come back!

Fairly crowded, but was seated immediately. Service was awesome. Prices were very reasonable. Ordered the meal for two, and portion sizes reminded me of the Flintstones! Wings were the size of my palm, and ribs were hanging off the plate. Food was good overall. Wasn't a fan of the chopped chicken, but it was passable.

Food Was Good The Service Meh The Sever Ask If We Needed Anything And She Walked Away We Need Drinks And Then 20 Minutes Later She Brought The Drink Like Why Ask If Your Not Going To Get The Drinks. And My Dad Got Half Of Chicken With Corn And Beans And Curly Fries Wasn't Bad But For A Side There Should Of Been More Than Half Of A Hand Full And He Go Hushpuppys.
My Mom Got A Chicken Burro With Sour Cream And Tortilla Chips But Order It With Salsa And Had To Ask For It. I Got The Chicken Sandwich With Chips. Wasn't That Bad But Sevice Could Have Been Better. It Was Me My Mom And My Dad And They Wasn't Busy.

We came to this establishment since we did see the outside order to go table and a few cars parked by the front door. Thinking it should be pretty good since it was 3pm and there were people still eating there. We were hungry hungry. so we Ordered "The Hog" which includes 2 ribs, 2 wings, chopped pulled pork, 3 sides (we got collard greens, corn on the cob and came with 4 hush puppies and butter) $21 Another lady ordered to go about 5 min after us, but she got her order in 10 min.
We waited TWENTY FIVE minutes for our order. Open the bag and first sign of trouble. no utensils or napkins. How do you eat BBQ with no napkins? Okay time to dig in. Teared at the ribs with hot sauce that was not the least bit hot. On top of that, the ribs were not even warm to the touch. It was probably room temperature at best and the end pieces they gave were so hard.
When your BBQ meat isn't tender, you gotta wonder. Pork was good. It had good taste, but no sauce even though they mentioned they would put sauce on the side for us. Again though, cold. Collards were okay. Corn on the cob was cold. What's going on with food safety? All in all. experience was Meh! Easily can get BBQ anywhere else and it'd be easily better. Go for Carolina BBQ or Old Hampton.

Best BBQ in the area! Operating through COVID and doing it well. This place is organized and speedy. You can tell everyone who works there cares about their job and customers. Tables were set up for social distancing, the servers wore masks, they had hand sanitizer everywhere, barriers protected both staff and customers while checking out, etc. We had a small wait, but, once inside, we're served quickly and the food was great.
I wish I hadn't split a BBQ plate with my husband because it left me wanting more! We had ribs, pulled pork, fried okra. everything was delicious. Meat was tender and smoky. Pretty sure they make their own BBQ sauces too. I ended up mixing them all onto my plate, hahaha. We had a blackberry cobbler with ice cream for dessert and my husband was super happy. Honestly, if you're considering going here, just do it. It was worth the wait!

Yummy yummy! We all wanted barbecue for lunch. The family sent us out for barbecue last week. Half of them are vegetarians. We weren't aware of the limited menu and small portions but can appreciate it because it is a barbecue place. At home we are used to huge portions of vegetables with our orders. Here we literally got three tablespoons each of beans, collards, and cole slaw.
This came as a surprise especially for the vegetarians at home. We loved the vinegar flavor of this style barbecue and will order again. Next time we will order more sides. This venue is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
