Today the restaurant remains a piece of South Florida's glorious history, a nostalgic and delicious landmark next door to Datran Center Skyscrapers, and the southern end of MetroRail, all just a block from Dadeland shopping center, as well as four other locations throughout South Florida. Mr. E.L. "Shorty" Allen left Georgia as a young man more than 65 years ago. In 1951 he built and opened the familiar log cabin style restaurant, including family size picnic tables, screen windows and a concrete floor.

A CLASSIC MIAMI SPOT! My family has been going to Shorty's for YEARS. Looking for good BBQ in Miami, this is the place to be. Their menu consists of everything from Baby Back Ribs, to crinkle fries, to Key Lime Pie. They have every type of meat Chicken, Pork and Beef. They also have a few different BBQ sauces. As well has delicious sides like baked potatoes, greens, onion rings and corn.
The interior is cozy and classic country looking. Their wooden picnic tables are huge and can hold upwards of 10 people. While they are great, Shortys prices has gone up in recently years. It's hard to get out of there with a meal under $20, but if your craving BBQ it's a must. Pro Tip: Check out their lunch specials for their deals! $12 Spare Ribs includes fires, toast and coleslaw.

I'm not a personal fan of ribs, but my family loves the ribs here. I tried the brisket and chicken combo plate. Brisket was delicious, soft, and flavorful. It need a bit of salt, as did the chicken, but I could've had an entire plate of it. Paired it with a lemonade. Chicken was alright, had a nice charcoal crunch. Coleslaw and bread included with most meals are quite good too. Ambiance is rustic and american, food comes out in less than 5 minutes and is very very filling.

It had been years since I've dined at Shorty's. Being a Miami native, my grandfather would frequent here and brought us on numerous occasions when I was a child. Now that I'm older, I was able to come and try to wake up my taste buds. I was really in the mood for some sliced pork, noticed they didn't offer it, so I ordered the brisket sandwich with a side of Mac n cheese. Expecting baked Mac n cheese like the server described, it tasted similar to that of Publix which wasn't terrible.
The brisket sandwich followed shortly after and it didn't disappoint! The Smokey flavor was there and the Shorty's sauce paired so well with it! I also dunked the fries in the sauce because it was like crack! It was definitely bittersweet dining here when the last time I came was with him. Definitely a sentimental restaurant for me.

I've been going to Shorty's for longer than I care to remember I grew up down south in Dade County where the original one is. Although it's still good barbecue they're shorties sauce is not at all what it used to be. Coleslaw is still good but a little dry. But like most restaurants these days I can't afford to eat there anymore. Too bad I smoke my own ribs at home now.

I've been coming here since I was a child and I think may favorite thing is the nostalgia of being a kid with my parents eating here in family nights. I have tried other items on the menu and the grilled chicken with their shortys sauce that's warm is unreal. Absolutely love this place and this will be a place I take my kids because of all the great memories.

Food came quickly but it was cold. Not that not would have made it tastier, disappointing. From my vantage point I could seethe back of the TV next to the drinks dispenser, the dust collection must be 1/2 thick. Some servers in getting ice used the scoop but others used the cup where they're had went into the ice, not very sanitary.

Very disappointing, baby back ribs were dry. Someone back there is over cooking those ribs. They give it too much cooking time. Shivers in homestead is better. The sauce is amazing though. I think I'll just make my own next time. By the way, you should really consider changing those air vents, they look filthy. I couldn't help but notice that debris kept falling on the screen of my iPhone.

Probably one of the best BBQ spots in southwest Miami Dade. Definitely better than Shivers and Sonnys. I had the brisket platter and I was instantly wowed by the tenderness of the brisket. Very soft and the meat that melts in your mouth. Even the cole slaw was delicious which was vinegar based not very mayonnaisee. The barbecue sauces added amazing flavor to the brisket as well. Very very good barbeque.

Not reminiscent of real Southern BBQ. I've been eating here for years and can recall the quality being better 10 years ago. The inside is well decorated and the people there provide decent service. South Florida does not have the greatest BBQ. About the only good place is 4 rivers in Coral springs. If Shorty's got it close to that level I would come in twice a week for brisket or ribs.

Guys. the food here is so good I've stopped in the middle of my dinner to write a raving review. The chicken is the most tender my husband has ever had, the skirt steak is so delicious and tender, and the onion rings are the best I've ever had. We took a chance and it will definitely become a regular spot for us. The only thing we didn't like was the uncomfortable benches, but it wasn't enough to take a star away. Great job to this place!

If you aren't a local I guess this place would call you attention and maybe good to you. Man its been YEARS since i visited Shorty's wife wanted bbq and we were up the street so I said well lets give them a go its been a hell of a long time. Well the food still sucks. We ordered the pork sandwich and the sandwich trio. Both were super bland no flavor.
I drenched it with bbq to try to get it to resurrect but that didn't work. Wife ended up leaving the brisket mini sandwich said it had a weird taste? Idk what to day about that. Fries were good :/ lol. Service was good cant complain about our waiter.

Today we went to the original Shorty's BBQ in Miami. This location opened in 1951 and was always my child hood favorite growing up in Miami. Although there are other locations only this location is permitted to BBQ with wood. The other locations do not. Our waitress Gaby has been a staple at Shorty's for 17 years and is fabulous. Well done for social distancing and a tent outside you really feel safe.
We both had the lunch spare ribs which comes with coleslaw, fries and garlic bread. We also had the world famous corn on the cob. Every thing was fantastic and the legend of this Shorty's location lives on. I left a happy camper and glad this historic sight is running so great. Wish there was a 6th star because this location deserves it.

This is a BBQ institution in South Florida and I've been coming here for over 40 years. And the best part is that some things haven't changed including their recipes for the beans, cole slaw, corn, chicken and ribs. Seating is a little different since the pandemic but normally everyone sits a long picnic tables so you're sharing a table with strangers if it's crowded.
But since the pandemic, everyone is spaced out and they have a tent for outside seating. Either way, the food is consistent and if you like a smokey, warm BBQ sauce, you will love theirs.
